Standard website analytics (pages visited, browser type, approximate location, device type) via cookies — see Section 6.
3. Special Category Data
Some of the information collected in our counselling application forms — particularly answers relating to faith, values, and spiritual guidance — may constitute “special category data” under UK GDPR (data revealing religious or philosophical beliefs).
We only collect this where you voluntarily provide it as part of describing what you’d like your counselling session to address, and we rely on your explicit consent (given by submitting the form) as our legal basis for processing it. You are never required to disclose more than you’re comfortable sharing in order to book a session.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide to:
- Respond to general enquiries submitted through the Contact form
- Process applications for Pre-Marital Counselling, Marriage Counselling, Individual Relationship Coaching, or Faith-Based Counselling Sessions
- Confirm, schedule, and deliver counselling sessions
- Send you confirmation and administrative emails relating to your booking
- Improve this website and understand how it’s used (via analytics)
- Send you occasional updates or resources by email, but only if you’ve separately opted in to our mailing list
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
Under UK GDPR, we process your data on the following grounds:
- Consent — for special category data disclosed in application forms, and for marketing emails
- Contract — to take steps necessary to provide counselling services you’ve requested
- Legitimate interests — for general website analytics and responding to enquiries
You may withdraw consent at any time (see Section 9).
6. Cookies
This website uses cookies to operate correctly and to understand how visitors use the site. On your first visit, you’ll see a cookie consent banner where you can accept or manage your preferences. Cookies used on this site may include:

You can change your cookie preferences at any time via the cookie settings link in the website footer, or through your browser settings.
7. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate this website and deliver our services. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data:
- Form processing (Popup Forms) — collects and routes the information you submit in our forms
- Email delivery — sends confirmation and notification emails triggered by form submissions
- Email marketing (Bravo) — if you opt in to our mailing list, your name and email are stored with Mailchimp to send updates
- Video conferencing (Google Meet/Zoom) — used to deliver online counselling sessions; your name and email may be shared with Google to set up a session link
- Scheduling (Calendly) — processes the booking details you enter
- YouTube — embedded on the Blog page; these platforms may collect data per their own policies when you interact with embedded content
- Website hosting — our hosting provider processes standard technical data (e.g. IP address) to serve the website
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK/EEA. Where this happens, we rely on the provider’s own compliance mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to ensure your data remains protected.
8. Data Retention
We retain your information only for as long as necessary to:
- Deliver the counselling service you’ve booked
- Maintain records required for our professional practice
- Comply with legal or regulatory obligations
Application form data is retained for [no longer than 3 after your last session”] unless you request earlier deletion, or a longer period is required by our professional or legal obligations. General enquiry messages are retained only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry.
9. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”), where applicable
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent at any time (this won’t affect processing carried out before withdrawal)
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled
To exercise any of these rights, contact admin@sopeoluyemi
10. Confidentiality of Counselling Sessions
Separately from data protection law, all counselling sessions are treated as private and confidential, in line with professional counselling ethics. Information shared during a session is not disclosed to third parties except where required by law (for example, safeguarding obligations) or with your explicit consent.
11. Children’s Data
Our services are intended for adults preparing for or navigating relationships and marriage. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has submitted information through this site, please contact us so we can remove it.
